Hennessey Clipper photographer Art Carmer captured this picture of the hats young men and women left in Cordry and Young furniture store before they departed for war. Carmer sold the image to a wire service, and it was published nation-wide. Here, the photo is marked "courtesy of the Enid Morning News," dated of December 2, 1943. Charles Hobbs, Kelley Hobbs, and Kathleen Cain Hobbs all hung their hats at Cordry and Young's store, retrieving them after the war. In his letter of Jan. 28, 1944, Charles Hobbs writes that Lawrence Hon sent him this image while he was hospitalized in England, and Hobbs was able to identify his own hat.
